Wair MacBeth Sleeps

Near grassy mound
Wair kings lay tae rest
By skye blue seas
Wair dusky seals nest
Wair auld hills wait
Wair winds sigh low
We stared eyes wide
Ow big an r’ownd,
Alone wi’ mysteries
Lang un’sowlved.
Swee’ shortbread melt’d
S’owft on oor tongues
Ae shepherd pass’d by
Wi solid staff in hand
Clad in ae regal kilt
Grey, blue an reid
An sae we trod, wi’ ken,
Wi’ angels thair
An dair’d tae listen
An tae hear
Macbeth’s laft’er
On thae air
Splash’d by sunlight
Splash’d by luv
Splash’d by hopes
From up above
We dream’d uv tears
O’er centuries past
Wash’d upon Iona’s
Green, green gown
An aye, we did weep
Wair MacBeth sleeps
