Winterplay

Winter plays
Toys with minds
Sets sun too soon
Twiddles days and thumbs
Swirls snowstorms

Winter plays
Mutes traffic on ice
Warms with firelight
Lets sun rise late
Settles in bones

Winter plays
Sends snowbirds south
Shuts windows tight
Sings carols by night
Stirs faith, hope, love

Winter plays
Sends chinook winds
Fiddles a few tunes
Lights candles too soon
Lets us sleep til noon

Time Capsule

freehdwalls.net
If only for
A time
Time would let go
And let me
Measure. Each course
Rivers winding on forever
Each earthy song
She’s sung, each cadence
Of centuries old and gone
And, leaving me alone
No stone unturned
If only for
A time
Time would carry me
Further upstream
Where I’d linger
In glassy hours
Scouring winsome shores
And scoop up sands
To study seashells
If only for
A time
Time would stand
Still. Long enough
And let me hold it
In my hands

Oceanic

City’s timpanic bowl
Slurs traffic tides
Brushes copper sun
Pins it to thin sky
North winds lay low
I stand, amongst boughs
Where bare trees wait
Highrises twinkling
As chrome moon floats
A familiar tune
Reluctant to retreat
Notes dangle at my feet
As if fading out to sea
Hushing rise and fall
Of humanity shifts
Riding another wave

Unbottled light
Spilled autumnal
Feast, at your feet
Red sweet orange
Skies racing blue
Words out of breath
In tousled leaves
A solar updraft, warm
Conversations lost
In summer’s last run
A clattering spoon
On a bare café floor
No interloper. I wait
Listening as sun soaks
Coffee brown earth
Savouring light, scribbling
Outside the lines

Into the Light

Long Road Desktop Background
Unedited, time unloosed
Lays aside her burdens
Returns us as we were
You, with your Nikon
Five bucks in your pocket
Taking winding roads
Your cavalier grin
Easily at odds
With old pretensions
Back then, too easy
Laughing at ourselves
At everyday humanness
Intractable changes
Like braces on my teeth
Here, where fault lines
End, infractions fade
And only Truth stands
Telling what might have been
Now that you’re gone
I can love you as I did
Free as the wide wind
The way we were meant to
Into the light years
