On the other side
of fields once familiar
past old rail lines
by the town’s edge
where chairs changed
a swift musical switch
bypassing familiar borders
bridges suddenly strong
beneath me, I catch stride
moving into something new

Terra Firma

2013 Clear Lake, S.L. Young

On tumbled stoney shores
unmoved by changing light
chasing wind-entangled nights
i’ve felt melodies of rain
touch the curves of Earth
Dancing on dappled sands
without an end to play
i’ve caught the loon’s cry
across the still, still lake
then tucked a stone deep
in my pocket to keep
and smiled at freedom

Hour Glass

clear lake 2013-3 S. Young
Chapters in time
flying summery days
sinking as the soft lake’s
aqua-clothed evening bathers
etched in indigo glassy light
bobbing silver and onyx
as real as my pen’s ink
on paper, all tucked away
in my minds’s eye carefully
recounting hours I’ve loved

By the Lake

Clear Lake 2013 S.Michaels
Down by the lake
Where sky meets land
And blue waves laugh
As if young forever
I pause to hear again
The heartbeat of Earth
Listening, as the rocks
I catch the music
And fill my plate
Full up with joy

Prairie’s flat grooves
its frozen wintry sea
stirs a restlessness
deep and primordial
as the Earth tilts
in bright north light
weather channels report
more snow in the forecast
I am, I think, stuck
between a proverbial rock
and an espresso break
I dream of azure seas
and tangerine skies
