Beneath the drowsy
late afternoon sun
I am as one of my father’s cattle trailing home on a path learned by heart —
the way cleared
by the scent of lavender.
And in the distance of another country,
there is Someone leaning
into thoughts of me.
This One is also my Father
and He is listening
for the sound of my own listening —
a sigh of longing
carried along by the wind of my breath
and love.
