If only for
A time
Time would let go
And let me
Measure. Each course
Rivers winding on forever
Each earthy song
She’s sung, each cadence
Of centuries old and gone
And, leaving me alone
No stone unturned
If only for
A time
Time would carry me
Further upstream
Where I’d linger
In glassy hours
Scouring winsome shores
And scoop up sands
To study seashells
If only for
A time
Time would stand
Still. Long enough
And let me hold it
In my hands
