Winter Geese

From where I stand
the railway bridge
catches a train’s roar
steel on cold steel
then a rush of wings
a convergence of birds
whooper swans & snow geese
telling migratory tales
awaking visions of ice lakes
fields gold with grain
leaving me to lag behind
beneath oceans of sky
I watch the fliers soar
clear out of sight
until I grow smaller
feeling slowly left behind
They will winter here
only a day or two
but here I must remain
or find new faith to fly

  1. Beautiful words…..I was there with you, and them on their winter travels. Such magical birds, and you found a stunning photo to match your words
