Old Trail

Old trail winds around
up ahead, lets me off
nowhere in particular
ending wherever it ends
where green fronds lay flat
at the bottom of a stream
and quiet trees stand
awaiting my return
I breathe in forest
winter’s thaw and sounds
ice separating from shores
I feel my tread grow lighter
as snowbound paths give way
to Spring’s happy pulse

  1. Such a lovely walk you’ve taken us on–with a superbly hopeful ending.
