Winter Lapse

winterwoods, nature.desktopnexus.com
Snowbound woods
mark time, drawing
circles around me
and slowly old days
grow young, drifting
closer to Sun’s warmth
while ice floes crunch
and tumble like dominoes
Unmoving, I hear aspens
in closed-shop conversation
awaiting Spring, a burble
the sap will run soon
they say, and so I wait

  1. Susan, this is an absolutely outstanding poem. I love the selection of words, the imagery, and the voice. And the message as well, that time brings about wisdom, contentment and patience, with the knowledge of the regularity of the cycle of the seasons. All best wishes for the New Year! Dee
