Somewhere Uphill

Coming home this time
Old wars left behind
He was the same guy
Just an ordinary Joe
But changed inside
Hearing a voice aloud
Urging him to move on
Like dawn striking
Truth, carved in stone
Crushing shadows
Touching velvet hills
Going against the grain
Running on wind
Stretching limbs long
Constrained memories
Erased by action
No matter how it hurt
He had dared pull back
Tattered battle curtains
Drums rolling far off
As rains fell, grace
Washed valleys of loss
Gaining him new ground
Unexpected greenscapes
Somewhere uphill
Life had regenerated
He understood this
He was trending freedom
