What if someone who loved you beyond all measure promised you ‘everything’ and that they’d always be there for you? You paid lip service, said you loved them too, yet you flatly turned them down. Sad, isn’t it? It happens, not only in human relationships, but also with God. Here’s a great promise God gave: “Seek first My Kingdom and My righteousness and…all things…will be added to you. (Matthew 6:33) Think about it. Not ‘some things’, not ‘a few things’, but ‘all’. Yet, I have known people who heard this promise of God and didn’t seem to get hold of it. It left me wanting to ask a question…
What part of seeking God first don’t you get?
God’s promises are beyond awesome. They’re eternal. And God isn’t a man that He should lie. (Number 23:19) When we say we love God, we need to truly take Him at His word. We need to know that when He says ‘add’, He means ‘add’. And when He says ‘all’, He means ‘all’. God’s promises are true and faithful and they always add up. God’s promises aren’t like man’s promises. They’re God’s. The same God who gave us life and who said He knew each one of us before we were born. (Jeremiah 1:5) The same God who says He holds the keys of hell and death and who tells us He is The Beginning and The End. (Revelation 1:8) God is who He says He is. God says what He means and God means what He says.
God more than did His part in giving us life and His love and promises. He gave His ‘all’. God could have decided it would be a one-way relationship with us, but He didn’t. He left the door to His heart wide open. And He stands at the door of His Word knocking at our hearts, and pouring out His promises for us to believe and receive. But God isn’t interested in ‘second best’ with us. He wants our all. And He wants us to seek Him ‘first’. God longs for a two-way relationship that we want as much as He does, not a one-way kind of ho-hum connection if and when we decide we need it…or Him. God gave us all and He wants all of our hearts. No half way arrangements in this forever and always relationship with the Author of Life.
If you know you’re not quite ‘there’ yet. Get there! Seek God. Really seek and get to know Him. Make it a concious and deliberate choice. Don’t wait another minute to begin believing and receiving all that He has for you.
“For no matter how many promises God made, His answer is ‘Yes’ and ‘Amen’…” (2 Corinthians 1:20)
