Another Lost Girl

She’s out there
almost every day
Sometimes waiting
for a Greyhond bus
Sometimes catching
a long train home
Buying no name brands
Crying a million tears
She stands in the rain
Waits a thousand years
All alone with her baby
And she’s only fifteen
Dreaming of new things
No idea where to begin
Pretending to be tough
As clear skies turn grey
She’s out there on her own
Heading out in a storm
She makes the baby laugh
His animal crackers crumble
In his tiny clenched hand
She whispers a soft prayer
And hopes it will be heard
She once heard someone say
God works all things for good
So she hopes for a brand new day
That it might be coming soon
And she holds her baby closer
Just another lost girl waiting
For love to find her here

  1. Thanks be to God that His mercies are new every morning! For this young lady of course… but as much so for us who will ride by and not be a vessel of that mercy. Lord, let us love as You love. Thanks for sharing this good friend… moving! God bless.

  2. A very nice poem that resonates with my heart.
