Tupelo Light

On the brink of
Finding lost things
Faded night flights
Quenching of dying fires

Burned out hours
Run threadbare
Odd socks worn
Thin and thinner
Holey, striped
Musty and cold

Wearied dusty corners
Shifting balance
Summer leaps of faith
Stored away eiderdown
Sleepwalks watery
By Cézanne pools

Tupelo sweet dawns
And Apalachicola bees
Sifting, buzzing as night traffic
Swan songs erased
Slower than molasses
Dreams waking days
Skies bluer than blue

Honeyed thoughts
Skimming life’s good things
Surfacing hopeful
