Why There Are Windows

Serendipity snap pea decision
Exacted while measuring
Life stakes and deftly
Trimming a peace lily
Clean-cut & pruned back
Whirring wings fluttered
Solemn heart beat muffled
And white blossoms spoke
How growth requires room

So the lone bird’s flight ended
Wings stretched to hurtful limits
Beyond gritty salt mines abandoned
Crumpled beauty in ashes
Painstaking faith rearranged
In ages of reason without rhyme
Almighty dollars out of synch

Only now come au revoirs
And thank offerings for songs
Gentle hellos over broken bread
Wine spilled near rushing streams
While back at the drawing board
Another peace lily slender stands
Plainly soaking up sunlit glass
Its soft green leaf telling me
Why there are windows
